About Us

AlternateStyle was set up in April 2007 and we are a very small family business based in London(UK). Our size means that we make our products in small batches ensuring freshness. We also travel around a lot attending Green themed Events, this gives us room to get to know our loyal customers and get direct Feed back on what we are doing right and what needs improving.
One of my earliest memories is of my whole family including cousins and aunties sitting around a gigantic wooden grater my father had built. He is a Chemical Engineer and owned a Soap manufacturing business in the 80’s and the whole family used to grate bar soaps into Laundry flakes. This however is not what set me off on my own journey of Making Natural Skin care and Toiletries.
I was inspired to explore my Love of Botanicals and my childhood experiences of growing up in Ghana using Raw Shea butter, Palm kernel oil and coconut oils further by firstly studying an Aromatherapy Course and learning how to incorporate the Use of Essential oils for Synergistic benefits to the Skin, Body and the Senses. I have also since learnt and continue to learn about the Chemical make up of Ingredients that are widely used in Skin care. I thoroughly enjoy making all the Soaps, Body butters and other bits you find on the website.

Our Brand and philosophy is to buy Fairly traded Raw Materials where possible from certified suppliers.
Use Natural and Safe Ingredients for their benefits to the Skin.
Use Certified Organic Oils in most of our Lines.

All our products are made in compliance with Current EU Regulations, our products are safety Assessed by a toxicologist and we follow IFRA (The International Fragrance Association) recommendations as a guideline for all our Essential oil Use. Our products are also covered by a Public liability insurance for consumers piece of mind.

Why: We use ingredients for their Natural properties and effectiveness and not for Exotic and Aesthetics or LABEL APPEAL.
Our family is made up of different races and so our products reflect an appeal to all skin types and not forgetting Hair types. We are excited to hear feed back and happily welcome suggestions, enquiries and comments always.

We us all our products at home, in fact our products are first tested on the family, and then we ask friends to also test and tell us how they feel and how effective they find them before we think of putting them on the market.
